Beautiful story about LAKE CHILA

LAKE CHILA IN MBALA , NORTHERN CIRCUIT πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡²πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡²πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡²

Lake Chila

in Mbala is not more than a kilometer long and 800 metres wide and is feared to be more than 1000 metres deep in some place's.

On its bed lie's a collection of historic military weapons that have been there for more than half a century.

The arms were dumped in the mini-lake at the  end of first world war after soldiers from Germany east africa Tanzania surrendered to the Northern Rhodesia rifle's.

A number of these guns were fished out from the lake a few years ago by Zambian  commandos who were on a  training excercise but it is  belived a lot more remain below.

From a geographical perspective the lake is a depression lake or a sunken lake where the bottom collapsed.

According to traditional myth, many years ago when the village of Chief Zombie was near by,there was no Lake Chila but just the river lucheche

and villager's would go to catch fish were the river was a bit wide. Then one day while many people were catching fish the area sunk within minutes killing the fisher men and by standers and Lake Chila was formed.

Apart from the arms that were dumped into this lake,Mbala is historically significant in terms of the  first world war because it saw a lot of hostilities between the warring side's, being on the boarder of the two British and Germany colonial territories and it hosted a very big British Military Garrison.

The infamous slave trade route later named as the Stevenson road passed through the town connecting Lake Tanganika

and Karonga town on Lake Malawi. — at Mbala District.

Fascinated by the idea of aerial combat he joined the Royal Air Force in 1941 and was deployed to the No. 237 Squadron RAF in the Middle East. Smith crashed his plane when the throttle malfunctioned during a morning takeoff, he suffered serious facial disfigurement and broke his jaw, leg, and shoulder.
